TelCodec

Data and images under control

Working with images and data involves decisions about representation, processing and reconstruction. TelCodec brings these skills into a dedicated component.

Working across data types

The library includes encoding and compression, image handling and structured information. These capabilities are available to other components independently of their interfaces.

Codec development and research

X23™ contains image codec implementations and dedicated experiments. Working solutions and research variants have distinct roles: an experiment is not presented as a product feature.

Value for the project

Control over data representation enables work on choices affecting data size, processing and reconstruction in the intended context.

Technical overview

GPEGNew5: an original codec

GPEGNew5 is an original image encoding and decoding project developed within X23™. It handles colour and grayscale images and provides quality settings. It is a distinct development line, separate from the JPEG implementation.

JPEG: an original encoder and decoder

TelCodec includes an original portable baseline JPEG implementation for encoding and decoding colour and grayscale images. An adapter for an external JPEG library is also available, with a distinct role from the original implementation.

NoDup and image representation

NoDup is another original image codec. The library also provides pixel and region handling and tools for comparing reconstruction quality.

Structured data and standard formats

Data tools include serialization, Base64, XML and JSON conversion, alongside zlib and LZ4 integrations. These complement the original codecs.

Codec experiments

GPEGNew5: evaluating trade-offs

Comparative image tests examine data size, encoding and decoding time and reconstruction fidelity. Results apply to the tested samples, rather than constituting universal performance promises.

NoDupNew: lossless compression research

NoDupNew is an original prototype preserving exact RGB values. Tests compare image coding paths to study size and processing time. The prototype remains separate and is not automatically enabled in TelNear.

LogRatio and LogRatio YCrCb

LogRatio explores lossless and controlled-loss paths. LogRatio YCrCb variants also study colour handling and the quality-size relationship. These separate experiments do not automatically replace codecs used by the application.
